Genetic sequencing once was a prohibitively costly endeavor costing billions of dollars and untold number of man-hours. Yet, the price for sequencing has plummeted rapidly such that personalized genomic sequencing may soon be available. On this program, Kevin Davies discussed the thousand dollar genome.
How many genes for a dollar? 😉
Charles, you didn’t tell us to keep on grokkin’! what’ll we do from now until next release?
kidding; cool show. it did keep ominously evoking Gattaca though…

Thanks for the reminder! 🙂 Let me make it up to everyone and say, “Keep on Grokkin’!” 🙂

I wonder what good DNA genome does when the other half (expression of genes) is just as important. Is there thousand dollar way to know how the genes will be expressed / suppressed?
Maybe we won’t need any of this when my super robot body is completed and transplant my synaptic snapshot into its quantum computing processor.

Well, this is the problem with personalized genomics at the moment. You really can’t interpret the sequence information yet in any meaningful way. Until then, we’ll all await the Matrix… 🙂
